Introducing the new Ford Everest Tremor, which builds upon the foundation laid by the Ranger Tremor. It enhances the experience with a more powerful engine and additional features. The price for this model is just under AUD $77,000, positioned just below the top-spec Platinum variant, excluding optional add-ons that I will detail shortly in this blog.
This vehicle is engineered for off-road capabilities, bringing you closer to the modifications that many enthusiasts typically make, all while maintaining the standard Ford warranty.
The Design, Look & Feel.
Let’s begin with the design, which is sure to attract attention wherever it goes. This model includes the optional rough terrain pack, developed in collaboration with ARB, featuring a front bar and under-body protection, along with future mounting options.
ARB collaborated with Ford early in the development process to optimize airflow through computational fluid dynamics, ensuring adequate airflow for towing and other demanding tasks, which may not be guaranteed with third-party accessories.
Therefore, if you choose to have this installed at the time of purchase, it will be covered by the 5-year Ford warranty. Additionally, modifications have been made to relocate cameras and parking sensors to accommodate the new setup.
It is certainly beneficial to consider this option if you choose to pursue it. We appreciate how everything is blacked out here.
The integrated LEDs are positioned in areas that are usually unlit on the Everest and Ranger models. Additionally, it features full LED headlights. On the side, you will find a set of all-terrain tires, specifically 265 mm wide General Grabber AT3s, along with some wheel arch cladding.
Engine Power & Performance
This model comes standard with a V6 diesel engine, unlike the Ranger Trevor, which was only available with a four-cylinder engine. The V6 diesel offers a robust performance. It’s important to note that there have been complaints regarding recurring issues with turbo return lines failing and oil leaks in the engine associated with these lines.
Ford has stated that they have addressed these concerns in the V6 production starting at the end of 2024. As this is a MY25 vehicle, it should incorporate all necessary improvements.
If you experience ongoing issues with Ford, ensure they apply the fixes implemented in the production line for these engines, as repeated oil leaks can be problematic while driving.
Additionally, this model includes a 360-degree camera and composite side steps, which are also used in the Ranger Super-duty, indicating a shared development for both Ranger and Everest. The Tremor badge is present on the side and is mirrored inside the cabin. It features privacy glass and roof rails.
Moving to the rear, you will notice partial LED tail lights and another Tremor badge. Regarding towing capacity, it can handle up to 3500 kilograms when braked; however, the tow-bar and integrated brake controller are optional extras, which will incur additional costs.
As you begin to check off some of these items, the expenses can accumulate quite rapidly. Regarding capacities, the increased weight of this vehicle presents a few challenges. It has a ground clearance that is slightly over 20 mm higher, which improves its off-road capability.
However, the addition of features like a bar and the larger tires can lead to increased fuel consumption. This is an important consideration, as it will consume more fuel than any other Everest equipped with the V6 diesel engine.
Furthermore, the added weight reduces your payload capacity. Although there have been some adjustments to the capacities, when fully loaded at 3,500 kilograms, you will find that your Gross Combination Mass (GCM) limits you to approximately 300 kilograms of payload within the cabin, which includes passengers and any luggage.
Therefore, if you anticipate needing extra capacity, it may be worthwhile to consider a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) upgrade to accommodate your needs. If not, it should suffice for the average user. I would appreciate your feedback on the design and pricing in the comments below.
Vehicle Interior
Do you think it looks appealing? Read more, Now, let’s take a look inside the Tremor. The key features unlock, lock, and boot functions, with the Ford logo on the reverse side. It is a proximity key, allowing you to keep it in your pocket.
The vehicle features a push-button start located next to the steering wheel. The interior resembles that of other Everest models, with the exception of the unique tremor design on the seats and some varied textures throughout.
Overall, the design is quite satisfactory, although the ambiance is somewhat dark. It would have been beneficial to incorporate more light elements, similar to the Wild Track, which includes additional stitching for distinction.
However, the large infotainment screen in the center does help alleviate the darkness, even though it is smaller than the one found in the Platinum model, which may come off as slightly inferior in quality. Aside from that, the overall appearance is decent, with a soft center armrest and door touch-points.
We have assessed the softness of these surfaces using our gerometer. For comparisons with other vehicles we’ve tested, please refer to the link in the description below. Regarding build quality, there are minor inconsistencies, but the overall fit and finish appear satisfactory, as indicated by the sound of the door closing. The car is equipped with Ford’s extensive Sync infotainment system, which is user-friendly and regularly updated to ensure access to the latest features.
It includes built-in satellite navigation, and you can connect your smartphone for enhanced mapping capabilities. Additionally, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available wirelessly, providing seamless integration for your devices.
The interface is quite user-friendly, and this is the appearance of Android Auto. It features a seamless integration without any issues. The audio system includes AM, FM, and DAB digital radio; while it performs adequately, it doesn’t stand out as exceptional.
This model lacks the BNO Play sound system, but it fulfills basic audio needs. The driver’s display offers extensive customization options. As you switch between different driving modes, the display adapts accordingly, which is a nice touch.
In terms of safety, it includes an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, blind spot monitoring integrated into the side mirrors, and radar cruise control with semi-autonomous steering capabilities.
Additionally, it has front and rear parking sensors. It’s important to note that the switch bank is located here if you opt for the touring package, which includes an integrated brake controller and pro trailer assist.
This vehicle also features the premium seat package, enhancing seat adjustability and providing heating and cooling options.
360-degree Camera
The 360-degree camera is another feature worth mentioning; while the image quality is decent, it may not be outstanding, yet it offers various views to assist with different driving scenarios. An additional trailer camera can also be added, which is a valuable feature. Now, regarding practicality, let’s discuss connectivity.
There are USB-C and USB-A charging ports, along with a wireless phone charger equipped with a built-in fan. Additionally, there is a 12V outlet in the center console. For storage, there are adequately sized cup holders, a spacious center console, a top storage compartment, and a reasonably sized glove box. On the comfort side, the seats provide a good level of comfort.
Previously mentioned, the optional seating package includes both heating and cooling features. The front row is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control and electric seat adjustments, allowing for forward and backward movement.
The backrest can also be adjusted in both directions, and lumbar support is available. You can modify the front and back of the seat, while the steering wheel provides both tilt and reach adjustments.
Vehicle Control Accessibility
During our reach test, all controls were easily accessible while driving. Now, regarding the second row, the knee room is somewhat limited, although headroom and toe room are adequate. Given the vehicle’s size, I expected more spaciousness, but it feels a bit cramped, especially with my seat positioned far back.
However, the second row can slide forward and backward, maximizing space. It features individual blower controls, USB-C ports, and a 400 W 230-volt outlet for powering appliances.
There are also vents in the headliner and a grab handle for convenience. Testing the windows, they operate automatically, which is excellent. Moving to the third row, I previously noted that an adult can fit there, although it is somewhat tight. There is a 12V outlet and some bottle storage, but to accommodate an adult comfortably, the second row must be slid forward slightly, which may reduce space for passengers in that row.
As for cargo space with the third row in use, there is approximately 250 liters available, which is not extensive but still reasonable compared to many three-row SUVs that offer little to no space behind the third row. Additionally, there is some underfloor storage available. If you wish to increase the space, you can remove the second row from the equation.
This adjustment enlarges the space to approximately 900 L. However, if you desire even more space, you can eliminate that second row entirely. This modification provides you with around 2,000 L to utilize.
As I mentioned earlier, the only specification available for this model is a V6 diesel engine in terms of the drive-train. It features a 3 L turbocharged V6 diesel, known by its code name, the Lion engine. It delivers 184 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Previously, I noted that Ford has made improvements to this engine to address some reliability concerns related to oil leaks. This is partly due to the Ranger Superduty, which will also utilize this engine but under different duty cycles for light trucks. I believe they made a wise investment in this area, as they should have initially, considering the issues that have arisen since its launch.
They have ensured that it meets the reliability standards required for Superduty, which in turn benefits the passenger vehicles equipped with the same engine. This is advantageous for consumers, and production of these improved models began at the end of last year.
Therefore, any Ranger or Everest purchased after that time will include all of these enhancements. How does it feel to drive? One of the positive aspects of this engine is its smoothness.
There is no fuss; everything operates seamlessly. The 10-speed automatic transmission performs quite well, avoiding frequent gear hunting and maintaining the appropriate gear when necessary. It also works effectively with the selectable drive modes based on your activities. For instance, the towing mode restricts higher gears to reduce stress on the engine. These are just a few advantages of ensuring you are in the correct drive mode when required.
Currently, another interesting aspect is that you can operate it in two-wheel drive high range, which helps conserve fuel. In our experience with the Raptor, we noticed an improvement of about 5 to 10%, as this mode does not engage the front axle. This means that torque is directed solely to the rear wheels, requiring less effort to drive the vehicle. However, you can also use four-wheel drive auto on paved surfaces, which is certainly a positive feature.
Fuel Efficiency
Now, let’s discuss fuel efficiency. Ford states a combined average of less than 10 liters per 100 kilometers. At the moment, we are averaging 12 liters. I should mention that we did some filming in a Topsy-turvy manner today, which involved faster driving earlier, contributing to this increase.
Generally, you can expect around 11 liters with highway driving, but this figure will rise if you’re towing or carrying a heavier load. Next, let’s examine how it performs on our sine waves. At a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, considering this vehicle is designed for touring, it will likely spend considerable time on country roads, where you’ll encounter these sine waves. We’ll assess its body control performance here.
This model is equipped with position-sensitive Bilstein dampers, which are intended for tougher off-road impacts, rather than this kind of driving, especially with all-terrain tires like these.
So, that will be one of the compromises you will face. Although it should perform better off-road due to that suspension, you will experience some limitations regarding body control over undulations at highway speeds. Now, it’s time to tackle our uneven country road. We will do this at 90 kilometers per hour, which gives us a good sense of how it handles on a corrugated surface.
This is where the slightly softer suspension proves beneficial, allowing you to navigate through this terrain with minimal issues. Here’s our condensed sine wave. Nice. Everything feels quite straightforward.
Drive & Handling
Now, let’s take a sportier drive. While this isn’t a sports car, I want to compare its handling to that of a standard Everest. Typically, I’m quite impressed with how well the Everest grips the road.
So, we’ll see how this model performs in comparison. You won’t be driving at high speeds in these vehicles, but we evaluate all cars back to back to gauge their feel, which can reveal some dynamic shortcomings.
However, this one feels quite good. In addition to the Bilstein dampers, it features a new set of springs, which contribute to its impressive performance.
The tires provide a surprising amount of traction. Generally, with all-terrain tires, there’s a bit of a trade-off, but this is where the V6 engine excels. It offers plenty of power, allowing you to accelerate confidently and deliver everything you need.
Overall, it’s a really nice package. Dynamically, this vehicle performs surprisingly well for a 2.5-ton vehicle. So, that’s a positive aspect.
Currently, regarding road noise, one might anticipate it to be subpar considering the vehicle is equipped with a large set of all-terrain tires. However, the cabin experience is surprisingly decent, even on rough chip roads.

When it comes to visibility, the seating position is excellent, as you sit slightly elevated due to the suspension. Everything feels quite comfortable from this vantage point. The large side mirrors enhance visibility down the length of the vehicle.
Additionally, the blind spot monitor and good rear visibility contribute to a comprehensive view. With the inclusion of parking sensors and cameras, maneuvering this vehicle in urban settings is quite straightforward.
We have tested the semi-autonomous steering systems. We conducted this test at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour, primarily to assess how effectively the vehicle maintains its lane.
Alright, let’s discuss the Ford Everest Tremor. What are our thoughts? When it comes to off-roading, these all-terrain features significantly enhance performance. The vehicle offers increased ground clearance, and you can purchase it directly from the factory equipped with all the necessary additions. This means you won’t have to compromise your warranty or deal with any related issues.
Additionally, it includes all the essential features you would expect. However, the downside is that there are several optional extras you need to pay for, such as heated and cooled seats, various switchgear, and the towing mode. It’s somewhat frustrating that these items aren’t included as standard, which can drive up the overall cost.
Yet, when you compare it to something like a Praa, which costs around 100 grand for the top model and still has a four-cylinder engine, the Everest Tremor starts to look like a great deal.
